Holders Indian Oil, Mumbai, will cross swords with Indian Railways in the final of the 32nd Indian Oil Servo Surjit hockey tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar on Friday. Indian Oil eased past Army XI 8-2 while Railways beat Punjab & Sind Bank, Delhi, 3-1 in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening.In the first semi finals, holders Indian Oil dominated proceeding and took the lead in the 13th minute through captain, Olympian Deepak Thakur. In the very next minute Bharat Chhikara wasted no time in doubling the lead. Sunil Yadav (17th) then converted his team’s first penalty corner to give the Oilmen a 3-0 cushion. Trailing by three goals, Army XI’s Chandan Aind scored a field goal from the left flank before Indian Oil’s Yadav netted from the second penalty corner (4-1). In second half, Yadav (42nd) scored his third goal.

In the 46th minute Army XI’s Siraj A.P. converted the first penalty corner to reduce the margin (2-5). Experienced forward Thakur sounded the boards after breaking the Army defence in the 50th minute before Yadav again converted a penalty corner (55th). Shivdeep Singh completed the rout in the 62nd minute for Indian Oil.In the second semi-final, Amit Rohidas (5th, 9th) pumped in two goals to give the Railways a dominant start. In the 18th minute, the Banken reduced the margin through Sukhjit Singh.In second half, Rohidas (51st) converted a penalty corner to complete the scoring.The winners will bag Rs 5 lakh and trophy while the runners-up will be richer by Rs 2.50 lakh.
